Async Orders

We’ve added several new features to the Pixfizz platform that make it possible to offer your customers a new kind of shopping experience: Buy now, personalize later.

This asynchronous (async) order flow lets shoppers select and purchase products first, then personalize them later through a link they receive after checkout. Perfect for stores that want to speed up checkout, simplify seasonal or bulk orders, or work with external storefronts like Shopify.

How It Works

  1. Your customer checks out normally – they add products to their cart and complete payment.

  2. They receive a follow-up email with links to personalize their items.

  3. Once they finish designing, their order is automatically confirmed and sent to production.

This means your production workflow stays clean and automated — while giving customers the flexibility to design at their own pace.

What’s New

1. Draft Orders

Orders that still need to be designed are now clearly marked as “Draft.” These orders are paid for but not yet ready for fulfillment. Once all items are finalized by the shopper, the order automatically switches to Confirmed and proceeds to production.

While an order is in “Draft” status:

  • Nothing is sent to production yet.

  • Customers can still edit or personalize their products.

  • Once all items are complete, the order moves forward automatically.

This helps prevent incomplete or mistaken orders from being produced before they’re ready.

2. Secure One-Click Sign-In Links

Customers now receive personalized sign-in links in their “Order Draft” emails. These links automatically log them into their account (or guest session) and take them directly to their draft order page — no password needed.

This is especially helpful for shoppers coming from external systems like Shopify or Etsy, who may not have Pixfizz credentials.

For security, these links expire automatically, but customers can easily request a new one if needed.

3. Example Workflow

A complete async order flow might look like this:

  • A customer buys a photo book on your Shopify store using a “Buy now, personalize later” button.

  • They instantly receive a confirmation and an email link to personalize their photo book.

  • They design the product when ready and click “Submit.”

  • The order is automatically confirmed and sent to production.

A demo of this workflow is available on our Pixfizz Shopify Demo Store.

Shopify Integration

The async order option is already available for Shopify stores. You can add a “Buy now, personalize later” button to your product pages — it works just like the regular “Personalize” button but lets the customer finish designing after checkout.

Currently, this integration supports Editor and Options-to-Editor products, with more product types coming soon.

A Few Things to Keep in Mind

  • Final pricing: Once the customer checks out, prices are fixed — even if they later make design changes (so it’s best suited for products with simple pricing).

  • Order expiry: You can set links to expire after a certain period (e.g., 6 months) if you don’t want customers editing old orders indefinitely.

  • Transaction fees: Pixfizz only charges transaction fees once an order is successfully fulfilled — no fees apply to incomplete draft orders.
