# Kiosk Mode

Kiosk mode turns a screen in your store into a self-service ordering point for your Shopper storefront. Customers order on the kiosk, pay at the counter, and the kiosk clears itself for the next person.

***

## Overview

Kiosk mode runs on its own web address, for example `kiosk.yourstore.com`. Your normal website stays exactly as it is. When someone visits the kiosk address, the storefront behaves differently:

* Orders are tagged as kiosk orders, so you can tell them apart from online orders.
* **Pay in store** is offered first, and can be limited to the kiosk only.
* After an order is placed, the confirmation screen counts down and signs the customer out, so the next customer starts with an empty basket.
* For film processing, the drop-off option is selected for the customer.
* You can show some product options on the kiosk only.

On top of this you can add a touch-friendly screen layout, and ask customers who helped them, with an optional tip. See [Staff and Tips at the Kiosk](/pixfizz-pos/kiosk-mode/staff-and-tips-at-the-kiosk.md).

## How to turn on kiosk mode

Kiosk mode is switched on by Pixfizz. To get started:

1. Choose the address you want the kiosk to use, for example `kiosk.yourstore.com`.
2. In your domain provider, add a CNAME record for that address pointing to `hosting.pixfizz.com`.
3. Contact Pixfizz support with the address. We register it on your site, request the security certificate and turn kiosk mode on.
4. Open the kiosk address on the terminal and place a test order.

The certificate can take up to an hour to issue after the address is registered.

## How it works

### One address for every terminal

All your kiosk screens use the same kiosk address. If you want to know which terminal an order came from, each terminal can be numbered. Ask us to set this up.

### Signing out after an order

The confirmation screen shows a countdown, then signs the customer out. The default is 10 seconds. We can change the number of seconds, or switch the countdown off.

### Loading indicator

Pages and checkout changes can take a moment to load. The kiosk can show a progress bar when the customer taps a link, and a spinner while the checkout saves a choice, so customers know their tap was received. Ask us to switch this on.

## Tips

* The kiosk address must be typed exactly as it was registered. A different spelling, or `www` in front, means the kiosk behaves like the normal website.
* The robot check (reCAPTCHA) should be turned off on the kiosk address. Every customer at a terminal looks like the same visitor, so the check keeps challenging them.
* If products should be priced differently on the kiosk, keep those collections off your public website.
