# Supported File Types & Upload Limits

This article covers the image file types and size limits that apply when customers upload photos to your Pixfizz store — whether through the storefront (Live Preview) or the design tool.

### Supported image formats

| Format             | Supported | Notes                                          |
| ------------------ | --------- | ---------------------------------------------- |
| JPEG (.jpg, .jpeg) | Yes | Native format — no conversion needed |
| PNG (.png) | Yes | Native format — no conversion needed |
| WebP (.webp) | Yes | Native format — no conversion needed |
| HEIC (.heic) | Yes | Converted to JPEG in the browser before upload |
| TIFF (.tif, .tiff) | Yes | See TIFF behavior below |

#### TIFF behavior

TIFF files are handled differently depending on where they end up:

* **Uploaded to a user gallery** — the file is stored as a TIFF and remains in its original format.
* **Added to a project** (placed into a design) — the file is converted to JPEG at that point.
* **Uploaded via Live Preview or the design tool** — converted to JPEG in the browser before upload, same as HEIC.

### File size limits

The default maximum file size is **50 MB** per image. This applies to both the storefront upload component and the design tool.

The limit can be increased to **150 MB** in two ways, depending on the upload context:

#### Storefront uploads (Live Preview)

For products using the `<px-image-upload>` component, set the `max-size` attribute:

```
<px-image-upload max-size="150mb" …>
```

This is configured in the relevant Shopper snippet for the product page or option rendering.

#### Design tool uploads

In the Pixfizz admin, go to the Design Tool Configuration and enable the **Large Format / Wall Art** mode checkbox. This raises the upload limit to 150 MB for images uploaded through the design tool.

Enabling Large Format mode also changes design tool behavior: clicking on an image placeholder will automatically open the upload modal, rather than requiring the customer to navigate to the upload step separately.

### Pixel dimension limit

Regardless of file size, all uploads have a maximum resolution of **100 megapixels** (100,000,000 pixels total). An image exceeding this limit will be rejected even if it falls within the file size cap.

For reference, 100 megapixels is roughly equivalent to a 10,000 x 10,000 pixel image — well beyond what most consumer cameras produce.

### Summary

| Setting           | Default                     | Maximum        |
| ----------------- | --------------------------- | -------------- |
| File size limit   | 50 MB                       | 150 MB         |
| Pixel dimensions  | 100 megapixels              | 100 megapixels |
| Supported formats | JPEG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, TIFF | —              |

To increase the file size limit, use the `max-size` attribute on the upload component (storefront) or enable Large Format / Wall Art mode (design tool).
