# The Production Board

The production board is where you manage jobs through your production workflow. It provides a visual overview of what needs to be done, what is in progress, and what is complete.

***

### Overview

The production board is a Kanban-style interface (similar to Trello). Jobs move through columns representing their status: **New**, **In Production**, **Completed**, and any custom statuses you have configured.

***

### Processes

The board is organized by **processes** — these represent the different departments or workflows in your production. Examples include general lab prints, dye sub, film processing, wide format, hard goods, and photo restoration.

You can filter the board to show a single process or all processes at once.

#### Per-user preferences

Each user can set:

* A **default process** — so the board opens to the relevant department automatically
* A **default view** — timeline or status view

Go to your **Profile** settings to configure these defaults.

***

### Views

#### Status View

Shows jobs in columns by their current status. Drag and drop a job from one column to another to update its status.

#### Timeline View

Shows jobs on a calendar timeline based on their due dates. Due dates are calculated from the lead time configured for each process.

For example, if a process has a 3-day lead time and an order is placed on Monday, the job appears on the timeline with a Thursday due date.

### How Jobs and Orders Relate

An **order** contains one or more **jobs**. Each job corresponds to a line item in the original order. Different jobs within the same order may belong to different processes.

For example, an order might contain:

* A set of 4x6 prints (lab prints process)
* A metal print (dye sub process)

Each job appears on the production board under its assigned process.

#### Order status logic

* When you move any job in an order to **In Production**, the order status changes to "In Production"
* The order only moves to **Completed** when all jobs within that order have been moved to Completed

***

### Custom Statuses

You can create up to two custom job statuses (configured in **Settings > General**). These appear as additional columns on the board.

Common uses:

* "Design Service" — for jobs requiring design work before production
* "Outsourced" — for jobs sent to an external fulfillment partner

***

### Job Tickets and Auto-Printing

If you have PrintNode configured (**Settings > Printing**), job tickets are printed automatically when orders arrive.

You can map different printers to different departments — for example, a main order printer for lab prints and a separate label printer for film processing tickets.

PrintNode is a lightweight API that runs in the background on your production machine. Once installed, it requires no ongoing maintenance.

### Tips

* Use the process filter to focus on one department at a time — especially useful on dedicated workstations or tablets on the production floor.
* Set your default process and view in your profile so you do not have to adjust the board each time you log in.
* Custom statuses are optional but useful if your workflow has stages that do not map neatly to New / In Production / Completed.
* If you need a job ticket reprinted, you can trigger it from the order detail view.
