Color Palettes: Combining Curated Colors with a Custom Picker

Color Palettes let you define a curated set of colors that customers can choose from when personalizing a product — keeping designs on-brand and print-safe. Until now, enabling a palette meant customers could only pick from those colors.With the new Allow custom setting, you can offer the best of both: your curated palette front and center, plus the freedom to pick any custom color for customers who want an exact shade.

How to enable it

In your admin, go to your Color Palettes and open the palette you want to update.Tick the new Allow custom checkbox and save.That's it — in the design tool (editor), customers using that palette will now see the option to pick a custom color alongside the palette swatches. No further configuration is needed.

Things to know

The setting lives on the palette, not the product. If the same palette is used across several products or designs, enabling Allow custom applies to all of them. If you want custom colors on some products but not others, use separate palettes.It's entirely optional. If you rely on palettes to keep customer designs within a color-managed, print-safe gamut, simply leave the setting off — nothing changes for you.Custom colors are the customer's responsibility. A freely picked color won't have been curated for print like your palette colors, so on-screen and printed results may differ slightly more than with curated shades.

For storefront developers

The editor supports this feature out of the box, but storefront (CMS) templates do not update automatically.
